From 1st June, British Science Association Newcastle & North East branch is to become part of Palace of Science. This follows the British Science Association’s decision to move away from the local branches model and to allow existing branches to become autonomous organisations.
Many of you will already be familiar with Palace of Science and their successful annual science event of the same name. Palace of science and British Science Association Newcastle & North East branch work closely together, along with several other partners, to develop and promote the event. It therefore seemed a natural progression to bring the two organisations under the same banner.
What will change?
Our logo, our website and the names of our Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts, as well as some aspects of behind-the-scenes organisational structure.
What will stay the same?
For the time being, everything else. We’ll continue to run our popular SciBar and SciQuiz events. In future we’ll be seeking to provide further opportunities for our local community to come together around exciting and entertaining STEM themed events.
Do I need to do anything?
No. On June 1st, our social media accounts will change name and our website URL will automatically redirect you to the Palace of Science website (palaceofscience.co.uk). If you’ve signed up for our newsletter or if you’re among our valued community of volunteers, you’ll receive a separate communication regarding next steps.
This is an exciting opportunity for us as an organisation and we hope you’ll continue to be a part of it. Not only will it allow us to continue to host events such as SciBar and SciQuiz, but it will provide us with freedom to further develop our activities supporting and promoting our unique and thriving local STEM community.
